Beltane 2009

Celebrated on May first and also called May Eve or May Day, Beltane is one of the most sacred festivals in the pagan year. It is directly opposite on the wheel of the year from Samhain and like this other important Celtic holiday, is a time when the veil between the worlds is supposed to be thin. In the Celtic religion, Beltane officially marks the beginning of summer. The Goddess archetypes common for this festival are the May Queen and Flora. The God manifests as The May King and Green Man. The May Pole celebrates their alliance and marks Beltane as a fertility festival with an abundance of flowers, fire, and color. Celebrate the day by buying fresh flowers and lighting candles. Give flowers to a beloved friend or someone in need of love. Honor the blending of masculine and feminine energies within yourself and have a Happy Beltane!
