A Curious Tale of Magic and the Town that Talks to the Dead

I recommend two of Christine Wicker's books, Lilydale, The Town that Talks to the Dead, and Not in Kansas Anymore: A Curious Tale of How Magic is Transforming America. Both books feature Wicker's first person reportage of her adventures with paranormal people, and Not in Kansas Anymore has a wonderful chapter on Hoodoo that serves as a brief introduction for anyone not familiar with this magical practice.
Lilydale is a look at the town in upstate New York which is considered the largest Spiritualist community in the world. Spiritualism is the religion founded on the belief in spirit communication and trance mediumship which became popular in the mid 1800's when the Fox Sisters became a phenomena with their claims to be able to talk directly to the dead.
Both books are available on Amazon, although
Not in Kansas Anymore is out of stock so you can find an excerpt from Google books linked above.
