God and No Other
Michael is the archangel whose name in Hebrew means "he who is like God." In Milton’s Paradise Lost he is described as being the angel that threw the rebel angel Lucifer and his followers out of heaven. Known by some as an ascended master, he is invoked by many as a protector and is usually depicted with a flaming sword which represents hope and overcoming the powers of darkness. In occult traditions he is associated with the color red, fire, and the direction of south.
In the practice of positive energy manifestation for the good of all there will come times when you feel defeated by the negativity which drags you down into its labyrinth of despair. At these times, when you feel defeated by these demons and their snares which suck your vital essence and feed off of it in order to better themselves in whatever way, meditate on the image of St. Michael and invite his sword into your life to cut away the negative forces around you. You will find this archetype a powerful force in liberating yourself from the dungeon of the mind.
It is helpful to use Michael's protective essence when you feel yourself pulled by the lure of temptations in their infinite forms, be they drink, drug, sex, money, power, or idolatry. Anything that distracts from the loving energy of God will take you off of your path.
