May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending one another. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness--the children, the aged, the unprotected--be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

There is a great outpouring of grief for the victims of the Katrina tragedy who continue to go without basic necessities and comfort and who are facing greater challenges ahead. Those of us who watch from the sidelines feel powerless as people suffer seemingly without help.

As scientific sources are now telling us, thoughts and words do carry energy. This energy is not dissipated, because energy can neither be created nor destroyed. We all have the power to guide our intentions and send our positive energy where it is needed, whether it be in the form of prayer, or charitable offerings. Know that the Universe hears your kind intentions and that you do make a difference.
