Your Word is Your Wand

Florence Scovel Shinn (1871-1940), was a New Thought writer whose books, The Game of Life and How to Play It, and Your Word is Your Wand, among others, are some of the best books ever written about positive thinking. Although Shinn uses Christian theology as a basis for her teachings, these simple books can be a tool for anyone interested in transforming the negative programming of her/his consciousness.

The New Thought Movement originated in the 19th Century and was based on the idea that one can transform one's existence by transforming one's beliefs with the aid of a God who is infinitely generous. Some of the leaders in this field were Ralph Waldo Emerson, Emmet Fox, and Ernest Holmes, founder of The Church of Religious Science. This philosophical movement was also responsible for the more extreme interpretation found in the work of Mary Baker Eddy and the Church of Christian Science, which she founded.

Most of the work of Shinn and her contemporaries is in the public domain and can be found free on the internet,
The Writings of Florence Scovel Shinn. Another classic available is As A Man Thinketh, by James Allen. These straight forward books are a valuable addition to any spiritual library.
